It's Almost Time - Back to CC Updates and Announcements

Hi CC Hickory Friends! Our first day is just around the corner and I am so excited to see what Jesus is going to do in our community this year. I continue to blessed by my conversations with each of your families and I'm encouraged to see you staying faithful in this homeschooling journey. As you read through these announcements and begin to prepare for our first day of CC, please be in prayer that God would guide our steps and go before us in all we do as a community.

Essentials Parent Meeting - August 11 at 10 AM, Benge home

If you have a student enrolled in Essentials, we will have a parent meeting on August 11 at 10 AM. It is very important that you attend this meeting and bring ALL of your Essentials materials with you. If you did not purchase those at practicum, please order them ASAP. This is what you will need:

1. The Essentials of the English Language
2. Teaching Writing Structure and Style (just the book - not the DVD's)
3. Medieval History Based Writing Student Book (Teacher book is also recommended especially for first year Essentials families)
4. A 3-inch binder and a 1-inch binder.
5. Page protectors to go in the small binder (25 of them should be enough)

End of Summer Bash - August 14, 4-7 PM

We had to have a date change on this event so make sure to note that on your calendar! The Eckhardt family offered to host this event for us at their beautiful mountain getaway. It will be at Powderhorn Mountain campground in Deep Gap (about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Hickory). Wear swimsuits and water shoes and bring towels or a change of clothes in needed. We will grill hot dogs so bring along side dishes and drinks to share. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Lisa Eckhardt at 1activeteacher@gmail.com as soon as possible.

CC Orientation and Open House - August 19 at 7 PM at West Hickory Baptist Church

This is an exciting night where you will get to meet your child's tutor, see their classrooms, and receive the community handbook. It is very important that all families attend. We will begin in the sanctuary (please sit near the front so you can hear!) and go over the ins and outs of CC and you will find out then who your child's tutor will be. Then you'll have a chance to take your children to their classes to have a sneak peak of all the fun that is soon to come!

First Day of CC - August 22 - 9 AM

We will start promptly at 9 AM with opening assembly. Please note that this year, we will be moving opening assembly to the sanctuary upstairs rather than using the fellowship hall. Make plans to arrive a few minutes ahead of time if you have a child in nursery or scribblers so that you can drop him/her off before assembly begins.

Mom's Heart Night

Amanda Walters has been so gracious as to open her home for a monthly mom's heart night where we can come together and share our joys and struggles and pray together for our families. We will also be going through a book together. Reading the book is NOT mandatory - just show up and be a part. If you would like to read the book, we are starting in "Mom Walk" by Sally Clarkson. Before our next time together and read the P section/chapters in PATH. We will meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM at 825 2nd St NW in Hickory. Upcoming dates are September 6, October 4, November 1, and December 6.

Tuition - Final Reminder

If you have not yet finished paying your child's tuition and you have not made arrangements with me to do so, please get that in ASAP.  We are in the midst of paying our fees to Classical Conversations, purchasing community supplies for classrooms, science, and art, and preparing to pay your tutors for their hard work. We also have to pay for insurance this year so it's important that we get everyone's tuition in as soon as possible to cover these costs.
