Hello Hickory CC families! Now that practicum is finished, we are on the fast track to starting the school year. Everything is coming together nicely and my office looks like an educational supply store as I'm sorting materials, planning science experiments, and practicing art projects. Your tutors have finished their training and now they are busy making preparations to encourage you and your students as you begin your Classical Conversations journey. God has blessed us greatly.
Many of you have been emailing me questions and so I thought I would address them here so we are all on the same page. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to email me!
How many students are enrolled at CC Hickory?
Right now, we have 4 Foundations classes with somewhere between 26-30 Foundations students, 5 Essentials students, and 5 scribblers. I am waiting to hear back from a couple of families to get our final count. Three months ago, I was just hoping we would have 8 kids… God has been working and bringing our community together day by day.
Will there be a parent meeting before CC starts?
Yes! If your students are in Essentials, please plan to attend the parent meeting at my house on Saturday, August 15 at 10 AM. All students (Foundations and Essentials) and parents should attend our orientation on Monday, August 17. If this is your first year doing CC, please arrive at 6 PM. If you have returning CC students, please arrive at 6:45. After orientation, you and your students can visit classrooms, meet the tutors, and get familiar with our facility.
What supplies do I need to buy before CC starts?
Foundations parents should buy the Foundations Guide. Students will also need a tin whistle before week 7. Essentials parents will need the list of books I sent you via email. If you have questions about those materials, let me know. Other than that, your children won't need anything except a bottle of water, a snack, and a packed lunch. Everything else is provided!
Is there anything I can do to help?
I'm so glad to have families that are willing to help! The most important thing you can do right now is pray. Please pray for our tutors as they prepare, our students as they wind down summer break, and our CC leadership as they guide all of the directors. Most urgently, please pray that our children will grow to know the Lord Jesus better during the coming school year. That is our number one goal.
I would also love to have a few volunteers to plan field trips, mom's night outs, and other "extras" that will be fun for our community. If you are willing to plan an event, please send me the details and I'll pass that info along to the rest of the group.
That is all for now! Thank you for giving me the privilege to serve as your director. I am so excited to start our first semester. See you soon!
In His Grace,
Amber
